About the Author

Dan Harrigan is currently earning his Professional and Technical Writing M.A. at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is especially intrigued by the changing nature of technical communication work, as the field continues to implement new digitally-based platforms, technologies, and practices. Dan originally wrote this article in May 2020, during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, he remains committed to learning more about user accessibility, inclusivity, and the recognition of social justice issues within the technical communication field.
