Emily January Petersen Ph.D. is an assistant professor and director of professional and technical writing in the English department at Weber State University, where she teaches technical communication, American literature, critical theory, and rhetoric courses. Her research focuses on professional identities from a feminist perspective, examining how women document their work on technologically, historically, professionally, and extra-institutionally. She has conducted interview and archival research in the United States, Botswana, India, and South Africa.
Jaime Winston holds a B.A. in Mass Communication, with an emphasis in News Editorial, from the University of Utah. He is currently earning a B.A. in Organizational Communication, with an emphasis in professional and technical writing at Weber State University. He wrote as a staff writer at The Magna Times newspaper, he received a Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award for an article in The Daily Utah Chronicle, and he has worked for Salt Lake Magazine as web editor. He is currently the senior writer for Weber State University Marketing & Communications, where he serves as editor in chief for Wildcat, the university’s alumni publication. His writing has also appeared in Wasatch View and The Diversity Times.
Uintah Arroyo received her B.A. in professional and technical writing with a minor in criminal justice in 2021 from Weber State University. She is currently attending the master’s program at Utah State University in technical communication while working at an aerospace company as a technical editor and writer. She lives in Ogden, Utah with her husband, and hopes to continue collaborating on articles such as this.
Hollye Tyler has been an avid reader since childhood and can often be found with a book and her dog. Hollye attended Salt Lake Community College to receive an Associate’s Degree in Education. From there, she attended and graduated from Weber State University in 2021 with a B.A. in English and a minor in professional technical writing.
J. Hudd Hayes is an undergraduate at Weber State University working on a Bachelor of Integrated Studies (BIS) degree with emphases in technical writing, leadership, and construction management. Professionally, he is process oriented and a technician of behavior-based performance management. His passions include allyship in business from an IE&D perspective and helping individuals and teams successfully improve performance.
Kelci Santy, a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, graduated from Weber State University in August 2021. Kelci plans on incorporating what she has learned about technical and professional writing into her future career.
Nicol Jolley is a recent graduate of Weber State University and is currently working as a junior technical writer in the aerospace industry.
Trevor West, Utah-born and raised, is looking forward to graduating in 2022 with a B.A. in English from Weber State University, with an emphasis in professional and technical writing. He has earned departmental honors. When he is not working full-time or studying, he can be found playing video games, exploring dungeons, slaying dragons, and spending time in Terry Pratchett's Discworld.
